GHANA’S MOST BEAUTIFUL. Brief analyzing of Regional performances since it insertion from 2006 to 2017.

GHANA’S MOST BEAUTIFUL
Brief Analyzing of Regional Performances since it insertion from 2006 to 2017.

The Ghana’s most beautiful been one of the prestigious pageantry competitions in the country, if not most prestigious pageant in Ghana. This competition is one of the reality programs organized by TV3 – Ghana. One reason why GMB is highly patronized by Ghanaians and traditional rulers is it taste of tradition, being the most culturally represented program ever organized in Ghana that talks about the cultural, social and traditional heritage of the people across the ten regions of Ghana. This competition is fairly represented by ten ladies each representing one of the ten regions of Ghana (her region). Having educate my readers briefly about the Ghana’s Most Beautiful let me analyze the performances of each of the ten regions of Ghana since it insertion from 2006 to 2017.

1. UPPER WEST REGION.

To start with, The Upper west region is one of the regions that has not been performing very well in the competition since it insertion but however, managed to take the crown in 2014, Baciara B. Abigail (BACI). Their inability to go to the finals can be group into two main reasons,
• Low Performance by their regional Representatives. It is obvious that some of their representatives do not put up tough challenge with the other regions in the competition, so this makes them find their way home in the early part of the competition
• Votes. Due to low votes by the region, their reps cannot make it to the finally as expected of them.
However, kudos to Chaana, Deli and Baci who competed fiercely to take the region to the finals in 2010, 2013 and 2014 respectively.

2. UPPER EAST REGION.

The Upper East Region just like the Upper West region has also not live up to the expectations expected from them in the competition but swiftly grab the crown in 2013 by Poka Anafo. Upper East inability to go to the grand finally regularly points out to the low performance by it representatives, their inability to market their region to Ghanaians and due to low votes and low turnout of events. However, in 2013 and 2014 the region made it to the finally two times continuously like the Upper West region. kudos to the likes of Asibi, Lamisi, Lamine and Poka etc who fought all the challenges to take the region to the grand finally in 2009,2010, 2013 and 2014.

3. NORTHERN REGION.

Considering the geographical size, population size, educational and social infrastructures of the Northern Region, it seems the Northern Region is one of the disappointed regions in the competition. The reasons been that, the region’s representatives have failed to market the region to the expectations of Ghanaians, low turnout of supporters and votes. Is surprising that since the establishment of GMB the region has been able to pave way to the grand finally three times, however the region would have been part of the few regions to have grab the crown two times but due to some reasons Zeinab Abdul Mumin is considered to be the first lady from the Northern land to grab the crown in 2017 Ghana’s most beautiful. Congratulations to the likes of Ruweida, Hiba and Zeinab who took the Region to the grand finally in 2008, 2016 and 2017 respectively.

4. BRONG – AHAFO REGION.

It is obvious that the Brong – Ahafo Region has never won the Ghana’s Most Beautiful crown before. Also being the only region that has never won the ultimate crown of GMB. The regions representatives fails to market the region for Ghanaians to buy in the competitions sometimes, some reps also fails to communicate well about the region, others also don’t have more knowledge about the culture, tradition and life of the people of the Brong – Ahafo Region. Some reps also try to fight their way through to the finals but unfortunately have to be drop out due to votes and other reasons, example of such reps are Ama of 2015 and Adom of 2017. All this are some of the reasons why the Region has never won the competition before. Other reasons being that some part of the region do not have access to watch TV3 in other to throw their support to their representatives in the competitions. Kudos to the likes of Abena, Konadu of 2011 and 2013 who took the region to the grand finally respectively.

5. ASHANTI REGION.

The Ashanti Region is one of the Regions that has fight it way through the Ghana’s most Beautiful competition since its establishment. They started very well in the competition and it is obvious to know that Ashanti region is among the first four regions that made it to the grand finally of the first ever edition of the GMB in 2006. And since then from 2007 going the region’s performance drop down low in the competition but in 2011 the Region again rose up from its slumber and from nowhere they grab the crown that same year from the Eastern Region’s Ama. Salomey Amoakowaa(AKUA) is the first lady to win the crown for the Ashanti Region and the only lady ever to won the crown for the region. From then on the region has been making it to the finals regularly. It is not then surprising to know that the reps of the region knows about the life, culture and tradition of the people of the region. Most of their representatives are very good in marketing the region to the likes of Ghanaians and is among the few regions expected to perform something new and surprising in their delivery due to the way the Ashanti’s are known and their language being the second most spoken language beside English language and also being the heartbeat of culture in West Africa. However we say congratulations to Adwoa Saah, 2006(host of Kumkum Bhagya), Akua(2011), Eno(2012), Akua(2013), Sika(2015), Badu(2016) who took the region to the grand finally in their respective years. And the likes of Abena(2014) and Akua(2010) who couldn’t made it to the grand finally but performed well in the competition.

6. EASTERN REGION.

The Eastern Region is one particular region that has been pulling surprises off late in the competition. Though the region was on and off in the competition but have performed well in the contest. The Region managed to grab the crown in 2010 by the Region’s AMA. After the region won the crown in 2010 they failed to deliver from 2011 to 2013 which nearly counted the region among the disappointed regions in the competition. But the might of the region was experienced again in 2014 by another Ama from Obo Kwahu in the Eastern region who fought well to take the region to the grand finally and from then on, the region has been making it to the grand finally every year. The reps of the region market the region very well to Ghanaians and this also shows that their representatives are very educated about the region they are representing. Off late, the Eastern Region is among the regions expected to pull down surprises in the competition just like the Ashanti region and looking at the Eastern region in GMB, it informs that the region is in greater contest with some peculiar regions in the contest namely the Ashanti, Central and the Volta regions of Ghana. 2015, 2016 and 2017 are clear examples of it. However, I can’t end without saying kudos to Yaa(2009), Ama(2010), Ama(2014), Afariwaa(2015), Akos(2016) and Serwaa(2017) for taking their region to the grand finally and Sarfowaa of 2013 who couldn’t make it to the finally but fought hard for the region.

7. WESTERN REGION.

The Western region just like the Northern region has also been a little disappointed to Ghanaians in the competition. Out of eleven years of GMB’s establishment, the Western region has been to the grand finally only three times which is not recommendable for Ghana’s fourth largest region and one of the richest regions in Ghana. But however, challenges facing the region is that majority of the people in the region living along the northern side of the region do not have access to TV3 if not through multi-TV and also people living in this same side of the region do not have major interest in the competition especially the Sefwi’s, Aowin-Suaman Dadieso getting to the boarder side. The people there don’t know what the GMB is about and some part of Wassa also. This has made the region to be evicted in the early stage of the competition due to low votes coming from the region. Also, some of the region’s reps fail to deliver well about the region since they don’t have more knowledge about the life in the region, their reps are mostly Nzema, Ahanta, Wassa and Takoradi people who only market the Western and the Southern side of the region leaving the Northern part of the Western region. Due to this challenges, the cocoa producing areas such as the Sefwi, Wassa, Aowin people fails to vote for the representatives of their region. However, in 2016 the region managed to grab the crown for the first time in a long time by the region’s YABA. Kudos to Afiba(2012) and Nana(2017) who managed to take the region to the grand finally. And one particular lady who couldn’t make it to the finally but fought hard for the region. Thus Araba of 2015.

8. CENTRAL REGION.

Looking at the pictures, it shows that the Central region has performed very well in the competition since its establishment. The Central region was the first region to amass the crown in 2006 by AMA. They are one of the competing regions in the Ghana’s most beautiful and pull down surprises whenever they made it to the grand finally. They are among the regions that are evicted early in the competition if they are not ready for the crown that particular year. 2013, 2014 and 2016 are clear examples of it. And if they are poised for the crown, then they are going for it, and 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2017 are evident to this. It is obvious that throughout this years, the Central region was first runner ups throughout the years, 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2017. In the year 2015 Vera Oheneba Safowaa (ESI) won the crown for the region for the second time, making the Central region the only region ever to win the Ghana’s most beautiful crown two time. It is obvious that the region’s representatives are able to market the region very well to the likes of Ghanaians and they are among the regions Ghanaians expect them to perform magic in their delivery. Due to their educational facilities and good schools, their reps are fluent in the English language and are good in delivery, especially mixing up “borofolising” both the Fante and the English language. Congratulations to Ama(2006), Fanny(2009), Bambi(2010), Ama(2012), Esi(2015) and Baaba(2017) for taken the region to the grand finally.

9. VOLTA REGION.

The Volta region is one of the giants in the Ghana’s Most Beautiful competition. The region brings surprises each year in the competition and they deliver explicitly as well. In 2012 the region managed to grab the crown from Ashanti region’s Akua by Emefa Akosua Adeti. It is obvious to know that the region always get good representatives who are well diverse in their culture therefore market the region with all their might and all their strength. One particular thing that is very recommendable about the Volta region is their votes. This help the region to appear in the final stage each year and always ready to grab the crown. For instance in 2011, 2013 and 2014 the region was the first runner ups in the competition. The region has appeared in the final stages of the competition eight times, making them the region to appear in the finally more than any other region in Ghana. The success of the Volta region in the competition can be group into three main categories.
1. The region is able to get good representatives each year.
2. The region vote massively for it contestants.
3. The region provide a lot of support for it reps. Their supporters will storm the studios of TV3 to cheer their representatives up.
However, kudos to Eyram(2008), Enam(2009), Enam(2011), Emefa(2012), Bubune(2013), Ewoe(2014), Fafa(2015) etc who took the region to the grand finally in their respective years. Finally,
10. GREATER ACCRA – REGION.

It will not come as a surprise if the Greater Accra – region would have won the crown three times being the region to host this competition since it insertion in 2006 up to now. Being the nation’s capital region, it won’t be surprise if I say the Greater Accra region is one of the disappointed regions in the competition. Their representatives fails to market the region well for Ghanaians to buy, the region fails to vote for it contestants and other causes are the reasons why the region has not been performing well as expected from them. The Greater Accra region is among the regions expected to pull down surprises due to the position of the region, their location and both socio – cultural and educational infrastructures in the region but has failed to do so. The region’s ADOLEY managed to grab the crown in 2008 and since then, once in a while the region manage to get to the finals. Well done to Akweley(2011) and Naa(2016) who took the region to the grand finally. And a particular representative who couldn’t make it to finally but performed very well, Achaawa(2014).

ADVICE TO LADIES WHO WANTS TO CONTEST FOR THEIR REGIONS THIS YEAR AND THE SUBSEQUENT YEARS TO COME.
Being an active follower of Ghana’s Most Beautiful since its establishment in 2006 up to date I believe I have learnt a lot from GMB and it has been very entertaining and educative so far. Ghana’s most Beautiful is the only pageantry program in Ghana I spend time to watch every year and also predict the finals of what will happen and low and behold it always come true. Now ladies from the Northern region who are serious to grab the crown for their region should wait for a while since it may not become a reality, not forgetting that the current reigning queen Zeinab is from the North. Central regional reps who are poised for the crown just like the Northern region should also be in waiting for some time, since the Central region is the only region to grab the crown twice therefore will be difficult to grab the crown third time in no time. Same to Western ladies, don’t forget Yaba gave the crown to Zeinab. However, the region with greater chances this year is the Brong-Ahafo region, being the only region that has not won the ultimate GMB crown before. Also regions like Ashanti, Eastern, Volta, Greater Accra regions also have chances this year. Upper East and West regions can try their luck this year as well. But above all this, the most needed things in GMB is excellent delivery and votes, it can take you to the finally whether your region has won the crown two times or more. Ghana’s Most Beautiful is full of miracles, signs and wonders. Anything can happen in GMB.
University of Ghana, Ghana Institute of Journalism, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and University of Development Studies are among the few universities that has produced a lot of representatives in the competition.
